My project
Over Easter I was in South Africa to start a long term project I have been planning for a while, using football as a way of looking at South Africa. The first stage of this was a series of posed portraits, alongside looser stuff, that I shot in collaboration with another photographer, Josh Lustig. My next trip to South Africa is in mid June for the World Cup, and for the dissemination brief I have 3 aims:
1: To work with project space/gallery Blank Projects in Cape Town, potentially showing World Cup/football related work in a rolling show as well as hosting World Cup related events (probably with a hint of irony).
2: To find interesting arenas to show the work I have already produced. The images are quite editorial in style and I'm hoping there will be opportunities to have them published in the run up to the World Cup.
3: To create new opportunites for making work in South Africa during the World Cup. One idea that Matthew suggested is to have some sort of photo blog while I'm out there, ideally for an established online publication. I'm also keen to develop the project in ways that are not straight up editorial/documentary.
I'll be posting major developments here, as well as more regularly on my own blog, so if anyone has any thoughts/ideas/suggestions I'd love to hear them either here, there or (gasp) in person.
Big Love
